How to play PKR in windowed mode on my Mac?
This is a questions we have been asked quite often, and the answer is a simple one: Just hold down the Apple-key (cmd) and hit "Enter" while focusing on the PKR client. It should take it directly to windowed mode.
Play PKR on your Mac
One of the most growing poker rooms on the net is PKR and many new people keep registering to play there. Why? Because they want to experience the unique 3D environment PKR has created to make online poker much more fun and "realistic" so to speak.
One problem remains though: PKR is popular, but only on Windows, because the poker room does not currently have a client for Mac users. If you have a Mac and would like to play PKR on your computer, then read below how to install PKR and start playing as if they actually had a Macintosh client.
Step 1 - Get the necessary Mac software
First thing we need to do, is to find the appropriate Mac software, which lets you run the Windows compatible PKR client on your Mac. We know there are a lot of opportunities here, but we only want to mention the best ones, espcially as PKR requires that it can run a 3D engine. The two most reasonable platforms are Parallels and VMware. We have reviewed both of the virtual machines and they both have some advantages and disadvantages. If you only need it to run PKR, we highly recommend Parallels as this is currently the most solid and user-friendly virtual machine for Mac. However, if you need to play other video games, VMware is the most 3D capable. Anyway, here's how to get one of them:
- Download the virtual machine from our link above
- Install it on your Mac, using the Windows platform (a valid CD is required)
- Follow the steps to setup the virtual desktop (they are pretty straight forward)
After following the steps above, you should have a fully functional virtual machine installed on your Mac. This allows you to install some Windows applications, so you don't have to boot your Mac into Bootcamp or anything else to run them. Note, that heavy 3D applications might not run on neither Parallels nor VMware, as they only support a few of these. PKR is a rich and great 3D application with many cool features, but we have tested it on both Parallels and VMware, and it works perfectly, so you don't have to worry.
Step 2 - Download PKR for Mac
This step is the easiest one, unless you have never touched a Windows PC (would be unusual). You just have to launch your newly installed virtual desktop, open up an Internet browser and download PKR. When it has finished downloading, you should be able to use the PKR Windows client as if you were actually running Windows.
Step 3 - Register and start playing
Now you have got the software with an installed virtual desktop and the client. Start up your Parallels or VMware, open PKR on the Windows desktop and start registering.
